We are passionate about what we do and are dedicated to doing it better than anyone else. Our company builds the most durable, high-performance machines and offers the biggest customer support network in the industry. We do this because we understand that our success is inseparable from yours.
Our History
Orchard Machinery Corporation (OMC) was formed in 1961, producing hydraulic tree shakers to enable a more efficient prune harvest. Like most agricultural engineering milestones which preceded it such as the cotton gin, combine harvester and the all-purpose tractor, OMC’s tree shaker replaced time consuming and labor intensive field work with a reliable mechanized alternative. This technology provided farmers and growers with consistent results and higher output at a lower cost.
Don Mayo joined OMC in 1970, bringing with him his sales experience and agricultural engineering knowledge from John Deere. He quickly set about expanding and improving OMC and its product line. In 2004, he took full ownership of OMC. Don oversaw the growth of the company from a small machine shop in its early years to today’s truly modernized international organization. OMC offered not just tree shakers to regional producers but complete orchard equipment solutions that decrease costs, increase production output and reduce the physical toll on farmers and their employees all over the world.
In 2010, OMC’s acquisition of Wesco Trailer Manufacturing and Sales further expanded its role as a provider of reliable, high performance products and solutions to the agriculture and transportation industry.
In 2024, OMC acquired Weiss McNair, a well established provider of harvesting equipment in the North State. The acquisition of Weiss McNair broadened our equipment line offering, further solidifying OMC as the go to provider of quality and service for orchard farmers.
Today OMC offers a full line of orchard harvesting and maintenance solutions, from tree shakers to material handling systems to transportation products, from hedgers to rakes to shredders, along with offering unparalleled service and support in the industry. OMC proudly manufactures all its products in the United States. Our product line enables growers across the globe to modernize their operation, thus improving yield and making for a bountiful harvest.
Tobbie Wells, CEO
For Tobbie Wells, Orchard Machinery Corporation is more than a business—it is a family legacy rooted in her father’s vision and sustained by the dedicated team who brings that vision to life every day. Raised in a farming family, Tobbie learned the fundamentals of business early on, watching her father, Don Mayo, transform a small operation into an industry leader. Those experiences shaped her business acumen and instilled a deep appreciation for the people who make OMC thrive.
When Don Mayo passed away unexpectedly in August 2022, Tobbie—then serving as CFO and a member of the Board of Directors—stepped into the role of CEO for OMC and its sister companies. It was a bittersweet transition, taking on the leadership of the company her father had poured his heart into since 1970. With Tobbie at the table when Don acquired OMC in 2004, the moment marked the beginning of their shared commitment to building OMC’s future. Tobbie is committed to honoring that legacy while guiding the company forward with her own leadership style.
Before joining OMC full-time, Tobbie built a distinguished career as a CPA and Partner at Bowman & Company, LLP, where she led the audit department and advised business leaders on strategic tax and business planning. She holds an MBA with a taxation emphasis from California State University, Hayward, and a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from California State University, Fresno.
What truly defines Tobbie’s leadership, however, is her people-first approach. Known for welcoming friends and guests into her home, she brings that same warmth, inclusivity, and collaborative spirit to OMC. She values the relationships she has with employees across the organization and understands that OMC’s success is built on their expertise, commitment, and dedication.
Under Tobbie’s leadership, OMC continues to grow and innovate. In 2024, the company acquired Weiss McNair, a respected nut-equipment manufacturer producing harvesters and sweepers since 1966. With over 50 years of experience added to the portfolio, OMC is now the only direct-to-grower, full-harvest-equipment manufacturer in the world.
Every day, Tobbie works to carry forward her father’s vision while staying grounded in what matters most—the employees, customers, and growers who make up the OMC family. Her commitment to innovation, quality, and the people behind the machines ensures that Don Mayo’s legacy will continue to flourish for generations to come.
